Today we are celebrating the World Conflict Resolution Day, marked annually on the third Thursday of October.

The purpose of this date, created in 2005 by the Association For Conflict Resolution, is to make citizens aware of the advantages offered by alternative dispute resolution means, such as mediation, conciliation and arbitration, and appeal to the use of the referred means in case of conflict.

Mediation and conciliation are amicable ways of resolving disputes, where the aim is to obtain an agreement between the parties with the intervention of a third person, a professional qualified to carry out the role of mediator or conciliator.

Arbitration, on the other hand, is an alternative way of resolving disputes through which a neutral and impartial third party - the arbitrator - appointed by the parties or by the Centre, decides the dispute in the same terms as a judge of a State Court would.
